Winter Greetings from Patagonia

Hello!!!!

Winter Greetings from the Patagonia!!

The Cup of Milk 2009 is just about to start.  The date set for initiation is June 1 but the work and planning and preparation has already started.  We have had two planning gatherings on January 10th and April 25th, 2009.

With the funds sent by our brothers and sisters from the ELCIC and the Women’s Group from IELU we have been able to buy the supplies and 480 litres of milk.  We have also purchased fire wood, cleaning supplies, various materials for maintenance, cooking and eating utensils, transportation etc.  We are intending to buy a wood stove to improve the heating of the building.  Anahí a member of the Congregation Cross of the South in Bariloche helped with the purchase of the supplies.  Very soon we will be sending out the corresponding accounting of income and expenses.

One of the necessities this year was to keep improving and repairing the work area and the area where the milk is distributed to make them appropriate and comfortable with adequate heating.  It has been some years thanks to a donation give to us from Trinity Lutheran /church from Bismark, ND that we could buy a new stove and also paint the outside of the building.  This year the congregation Cross of the South from Bariloche has committed itself to helping with the Cup of Milk and Friday May 8th, Rafael, Pieter and Juan Carlos came with me on the trip to Cushamen.  Raphael filled his truck with milk and supplies and we rented a vehicle and we started the journey Friday night.  We slept in El Maitén (about 70 km’s from Cushamen) and we arrived Saturday morning.  We dedicated the whole day to the repairs needed for the tank on the toilet which has not functioned for many years.  We also started to paint the interior part of the building which the community of Cushamen finished and we also made various repairs that were needed.  We still need to make our promised return visit!

It is very inspiring for me to see us working together with our sisters and brothers from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, the wormen’s network from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina, a United and Lutheran congregation from Bismark and the congregation Cross of the South from Bariloche, helping, working and accompanying together with the community of Cushamen in this very important work.

Blessings;

Pastor Sergio Utz
